Salesforce recently announced an $8 billion acquisition as part of a major push to become a much bigger presence in the corporate arena. Salesforce’s Partnership with Informatica will unite two sizable, well-known enterprise software companies with decades of practical experience.
An early pioneer in the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) field, Informatica was established in 1993 as a provider specializing in enterprise data. Over the past 25 years, Informatica has evolved along with technology cycles, shifting to cloud and SaaS and, more recently, adopting generative AI. The company just revealed a number of new agentic AI products at Informatica World last week, which are intended to enhance enterprise data management and operations.
Salesforce hopes to strengthen its reliable database for agentic AI development by acquiring Informatica. By combining the following, a single architecture will be created that will allow AI agents to function across organizations in a safe, responsible, and large-scale manner:
* Informatica’s Master Data Management (MDM) quality. Privacy, governance, integration, and a comprehensive data catalog.
* Data Cloud, Agentforce, Tableau, MuleSoft, and Customer 360 are all part of Salesforce’s platform.

Salesforce’s acquisition of Informatica closes a gap in its data management capabilities, claims Forrester Analyst Noel Yuhanna.
According to Yuhanna, vendor solutions need to firmly combine data and AI as two sides of the same coin in order to completely achieve AI’s potential. He believes that this acquisition enhances Salesforce’s capacity to accomplish that, establishing the foundation for next-generation data that can support AI use cases by enabling intelligent, autonomous, and personalized experiences at scale.
Importantly, this puts Salesforce in a position to provide a unified customer data fabric, allowing for a genuinely end-to-end platform for analytics, AI, and data that is customized for use cases that are focused on the needs of the customer, Yuhanna stated. “This move brings Salesforce much closer to that vision. Real-time data integration across diverse sources is becoming critical for advanced customer engagement.
Although Informatica’s technology has always been built on data, Salesforce finds it appealing because of its junction with agentic AI.
The Informatica purchase has been speculated for more than a year, with a reasonable anticipation of a $11 billion bid last year, according to Hyoun Park, CEO and Chief Analyst at Amalgam Insights, who spoke to VentureBeat.
Practically speaking, every significant player in the market must manage data, workflows, integration, and models in addition to the agents and be a solid IT partner in the haste towards agentic AI, according to Park.
