Government agencies are under increasing pressure to enhance their responsiveness, efficiency, and productivity in the face of staff shortages and increased public expectations. That’s why Salesforce today unveiled Agentforce for the public sector, a digital workforce of intelligent AI agents for government services capable of handling difficult and time-consuming activities autonomously while adhering to set guidelines.
With Agentforce for Public Sector, government agencies may leverage AI agents to aid staff and constituents, increasing government responsiveness, providing better public support, simplifying enforcement, and lowering risk for government workers. This allows government employees to focus on the mission-critical activities while providing easier, faster, and more cost-effective public services.
Employee shortages in the US public sector have been a common concern for some years, affecting hospitals, education, firefighting, and federal services. These challenges are worsened by an aging workforce, underinvestment, and recruitment difficulties. By introducing public sector AI automation through Agentforce, agencies can bridge staffing gaps while ensuring compliance and faster service delivery.
The state of Texas experienced destructive flooding just last month, and according to research from The New York Times, understaffing in critical positions in Texas’ national weather service made it difficult for the forecasting agency to coordinate with local emergency managers as the floodwaters rose.
In light of these ongoing challenges, today appears to be an opportune time to introduce digital labor – sectors are failing, and agentic AI might help “carry the load” where needed. There is also a considerable cost-saving component involved. According to Salesforce research, 64% of global government officials believe that introducing agentic workforces in the future will provide significant financial benefits.
Faster Recruitment Identification: AI-powered resume matching and candidate engagement can help speed up the hiring process while minimizing the recruiting admin strain. Recruiters can “tap” agents to learn about recruits’ qualifications, share possible applicants with hiring managers, and eventually speed up hiring choices.
Recommendations for Job Applicants: Help job seekers find the most relevant job prospects based on their abilities and experience, decreasing the time they spend looking for work.
Simplifying the Complaint Process: Help complainants and workers locate accurate information about policies and compliance needs, and then lead them through the complaint process.
Benefits Application: Allow people to speak with an agent to determine whether they are eligible for benefits, which will speed up the application process.
Agentforce for Public Sector, built on Salesforce’s Public Sector Solutions, enables agencies to deploy AI-powered government automation in weeks rather than months. Non-technical teams can simply customize agents using plain language and pre-made templates. Because it leverages the Public Sector Solutions data model and Salesforce Data Cloud, agencies gain actionable insights for public services, ensuring that decision-making is accurate and holistic. CloudMetic supports this journey with Salesforce development services, helping agencies customize and scale their AI-driven workflows effectively.
The Atlas Reasoning Engine, the “brain” of Agentforce, can process and analyze complicated data from numerous sources in order to make informed judgments, provide predictive insights, and generate actionable suggestions. The Atlas Reasoning Engine employs innovative approaches such as ensemble retrieval augmented generation (RAG), which leverages the skills of numerous RAG models to provide extremely specific, precise data to agents.
Data Cloud serves as the connecting tissue for the Salesforce Platform, allowing you to easily incorporate structured and unstructured data from various sources within or outside of Salesforce, such as apps, data lakes, emails, photos, PDFs, or legacy systems. Salesforce’s Trust Layer safeguards privacy and security with features like dynamic grounding, minimal data retention, and toxicity detection, enabling responsible AI use while maintaining high security standards.
And, thanks to Salesforce’s deeply connected platform, public sector organizations can benefit from innovation happening throughout the Salesforce ecosystem. This includes using Agent Builder to simply customize an out-of-the-box agent for specific government use cases by defining subjects like natural-language instructions and other safeguards. To further personalize it, public sector teams may quickly connect a library of actions from Salesforce’s current business logic, including Flows, Apex, MuleSoft APIs, and prompt templates.
Agentforce for Public Sector is hosted securely on AWS to facilitate regulatory compliance and data residency requirements. Agentforce for Public Sector is not accessible to the government customers via the AWS Marketplace. Additionally, public sector leaders can speed up deployment and ROI by collaborating with trusted Salesforce partners such as IBM Consulting.
“Agents represent a fundamental shift in how organizations operate, enabling unprecedented levels of productivity and innovation across all industries,” said Amy Belcher, Director of WWPS ISV Sales at AWS. “Our infrastructure is designed to meet the most stringent security requirements of high-sensitivity organizations around the world, and we continue to assist partners such as Salesforce in obtaining FedRAMP accreditations and leveraging AWS Marketplace to assist government agencies in solving real-world problems, accelerating innovation, and reducing time to value.”
“Agentforce for Public Sector will help drive unprecedented efficiency across many facets of the public sector,” said Susan Wedge, IBM Consulting’s Managing Partner for the US Federal Market. “Highly tuned agents have the ability to change the way every constituent is served. IBM Consulting’s Salesforce practice advises public-sector clients on AI transformations, assisting them in scaling agent use. Agentforce Public Sector is enhanced by IBM Watsonx, enabling an open approach to agentic AI.”
